It’s all about urban backdrops in this engagement shoot! Meet engaged couple Lacey and Jay who are in the midst of planning their wedding in Bloomington. For their engagement shoot with Brandy Swartz, they head to the place they first met, ISU. We asked Brandy a little more about the engagement shoot…
Brandy – “Talk about a beautiful couple! Lacey and Jay are a sweet combination of pretty and sexy which allowed me to get through this shoot with exciting ease. We started at ISU where the couple met, dated and eventually fell in love. ISU campus is full of great landscapes and architecture giving the photos a romantic charming feel. This was ultimately the “sweet” part of the session, given the college sweethearts that they are. Next, we headed to Downtown Bloomington which is full of incredibly tall old buildings and colorful murals. I had the sun right where I wanted it giving me a few minutes to get some of my favorite sunset shots as it reflected off of one of the buildings behind them giving a gorgeous backlight. Va va voom. Walking down the street, I spotted a super sexy “vintage” glass doorway that I had them sneak behind. This would be the “sassy” part of the session I was looking for.We were able to end the shoot in a common area of Downtown Bloomington that is full of colorful murals. The great thing about this area is every time I visit the murals are usually different than the last time I was there. Jay was able to impress me with his amazing dipping skills. Add that to your resume, Jay.”
Thank you to Brandy Swartz for sharing this lovely engagement shoot with us. We hope you like enjoy this engagement shoot!
How long have you been together and where did you meet?
Lacy: “Jay and I have been together for 3.5 years. We were both in the same co-ed service fraternity together at ISU, Alpha Phi Omega. We were in the same pledge class but we never said a word to each other because we were way too nervous! After about 9 months of knowing each other, I started a conversation with him because I saw that he worked at The Castle Theatre and was into the same type of music. We ended up hitting it off and have been inseparable ever since!”
Tell us about your proposal…
“Jay and I had tickets to see one of our favorite performers, City and Colour, in Chicago and I was 100% sure he was going to propose that night…but it never happened.
Two days later we made an impromptu trip to my parent’s house for the day, and Jay was acting super nervous. All of a sudden he “had to go talk to my Dad” and they were outside talking for a really long time, so I knew something was up. It was early November and all of the trees were bright orange and red, so I wanted to take a picture outside for Christmas cards. We were walking around the yard, trying to find a tree to take a picture in front of, and just as we were under my parent’s apple tree he got on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course, I said yes.”
Can you reveal anything about your wedding?
“Our wedding is going to be at The Castle Theatre in Bloomington, Illinois. It has a very vintage, unique feel that suits us and our personalities very well. It’s going to be very classy and elegant with a modern twist — lots of black and white but with pops of color and sparkle.”
